For Colored Girls Lagos

I had seen the Tyler Perry's movie and I loved it. It was sad, but it was lovely. When I heard of the Nigerian adaptation of the stage play, I was excited. I was looking forward to the stage play in Lagos. How exactly was it going to be adapted to a Nigerian background and all.
I went with a couple of friends to see it.
Apart from the one hour delay at the beginning, it went well. Everyone just kept applauding Funke Akindele anytime she said one word or just danced across the

I had only seen Oreka Godis on Ebonylife's Love Lounge as a host so I didn't know what to expect from her, thus I was blown away by her part. Her twerking!! Watch out Miley!

I kept trying to make the play go with the movie, but it didn't exactly work out. My friend who had read the original stage play explained to me that, Tyler Perry's movie was an adaptation as well, and he had made a story and some characters along the way. So I gave up trying to make the play go along with the movie, and just let myself open up and enjoy it. And I was glad I did.

Memorable parts/quotes from the play
  • Oreka Godis's twerking
  • They almost made it to sexy, but omo, almost doesn't count.(Yellow- Oreka Godis) on how the other girls on matric night were posing.
  • I used to live in the world, till I moved to Lagos (haha, where is Lagos, planet Mars?lol)
  • Ade Laoye's voice...throughout!
  • Diana Yekini's tap dance. Wasn't expecting it. Was blown away. She had the whole tailcoat to go along with it!
  • Osas Ighodaro had a certain grace about her that I loved.
  • I couldn't stand being black and sad , its so redundant. (Orange. Funke Akindele) I remember hearing that line in the movie and it still hits me.
  • Someone almost walked away with me, inside a plastic bag. (Green - Bikiya GD)
From the movie, Green played by Loretta Devine was my favorite story. It just rings true of how an event or a person can replace you with a bitter person. Like what have you done with me? And its just a reminder to me and you not to let anyone or any event walk away with you. You are the greatest gift you own. Hang on to you.

Who went to see the play?
What was your memorable moments?
Whose story do you connect with most?

Do over part 3 ( The Place, Victoria Island)

What is Outside the Closet? #Poleday vol 2

I've been interested in pole dance/fitness for sometime and after taking classes, I finally got my own pole.Yay! Still deciding on a name for it. Idris is among the top contenders, alongside Decided to share my love for pole and let people know I'm into pole dance/fitness, essentially coming out of the closet with dps, whatsapp, instagram, Facebook. I've always wondered what lay waiting outside the closet. What would people think or say? Would they think I'm a stripper, or at least lose. I mean I may be scantily clad (well that's because the body is a better grip on the pole than cloth) and dance provocatively.

Well these are what I've found outside the closet-

Girls: "I want to learn! I'm jealous"
Encouragement along those lines.

There are different responses from guys.

Guy1: Wow, your boyfriend is so lucky

Guy 2: So when will you come and show me what you can do? A private show

Guy 3: I hear it's quite the workout.

Haven't got the bashing I quite expected, and hopefully I don't :-)

By the way, any votes for pole name?

Cabbage recipes Enjoy!!

There are different types of cabbage from the green cabbage, wombok, napa, red cabbage, savoy and so on. There are different benefits of cabbage and why it should be added to our diet. Cabbage has  dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, Glusosinolates which breaks down into Isothiocyanate and indole which acts as a powerful antioxidant that helps in preventing cancer according to the National Cancer institute. Cabbage is also a brain food. It also helps in weight loss ideally it is just 32 to 36 calories in a cup of cooked or steamed cabbage. People with thyroid problems should avoid consuming large amount of cabbage bios it interferes with the body's absorption of iodine, needed by the thyroid gland.

Cabbage recipes
Recipe one - Warm cabbage salad
Ingredients are small sized cabbage , onions, garlic, ginger, spring onions, beef or chicken (shredded), green beans, 4 tablespoon of oil ( I personally prefer sesame oil).
Method: Chop up the cabbage, onions, and green beans. Mince the garlic. Grate the ginger root (tablespoon). Get your sauce pan ready on the fire, pour your oil into the pan sautéed the onions and garlic then add ginger. After 1min add the shredded meat or chicken or fish, reduce the heat and cover for a min or two. Open then add the chopped green beans, and cabbage don't be scared if your pan is full it is okay it will reduce. Place the cover on the pan and give it 5mins to steam. Turn off the fire. After another 5mins sprinkle the chopped spring onions and it is ready to be served. Enjoy!

The second recipe - Cabbage chunky soup
Ingredients are small sized cabbage, onions, garlic, lean beef (chopped), Irish potatoes (chopped). Get out you sauce pan again, oil and sautéed your onions and garlic. Place 1/4 cup of water in the pan then place your meat and add your preferred spices. Cover and allow to cook for 10mins on low heat. Add your chopped potatoes and allow to steam.  After 5mins you can turn off the heat, keep the lid on. And it is ready to be served. Enjoy!

The third recipe - Stuffed cabbage
Ingredients are cabbage, onions, garlic shredded beef or chicken or pork, ginger powder, sweet corn. Remove the leaves of the cabbage soak in hot water; mince the chicken, pork or meat. Place the meat into the pan with chopped onions and garlic and ginger powder and preferred spices. Once the meat is cooked you can add the sweet corn.
The fourth recipe - moi moi in cabbage
Ingredients are your cabbage, moi moi mix (beans cleaned and blended with onions, pepper, and you desired spices. Soak the cabbage leaf in hot water to make it easier to handle. Get your small rope to tie the cabbage filled with your moi moi mix. place gently into your steamer and steam for 20 mins. I don’t like my moi moi to be over cooked. So I leave the lid on for an extra 5mins and it is ready to be served.
